Looking for something different than your usual mint iced tea? This iced honeydew mint tea combines the sweetness of fresh honeydew with the cooling power of mint – and its honestly become my go-to summer drink.

Iced Honeydew Mint Tea

Why This Mint Tea Recipe Works

Most mint tea recipes are pretty basic but adding honeydew takes it to another level. The melon adds natural sweetness so you dont need tons of sugar plus it gives the tea this beautiful light green color that looks amazing in photos.

I started making this after getting tired of the same old mint iced tea starbucks serves. Dont get me wrong their starbucks mint iced tea is decent but homemade always tastes fresher and you control whats going in it.

Ingredients for Fresh Mint Tea with Honeydew

  • 4-5 cups water
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves (more if you want it stronger)
  • 2 cups ripe honeydew melon, cubed
  • 2-3 tbsp honey or sugar (adjust to taste)
  • Ice cubes
  • Extra mint sprigs for garnish

How to Make Tea from Fresh Mint (With a Twist)

Step 1: Prep Your Mint

First thing – wash your fresh mint leaves really well. I like to bruise them slightly by gently pressing with the back of a spoon. This releases more oils and makes the flavor stronger.

Step 2: Make the Base Tea

Bring 2 cups of water to a boil then remove from heat. Add your mint leaves and let steep for 8-10 minutes. The longer you steep the stronger the mint flavor so adjust based on your preference.

Step 3: Prepare Honeydew

While the tea steeps blend your honeydew cubes with 1/2 cup water until smooth. Strain if you want it completely smooth but I usually leave it a bit pulpy for texture.

Step 4: Combine Everything

Mix the strained mint tea with honeydew puree and remaining 2 cups cold water. Add honey while the tea is still slightly warm so it dissolves easier.

Step 5: Chill and Serve

Refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Serve over ice with fresh mint sprigs.

Tips for the Best Mint Iced Tea Recipe

Choose the right mint: Spearmint works great but peppermint is stronger if thats your thing. Avoid chocolate mint or other flavored varieties for this recipe.

Honeydew ripeness matters: Press the end opposite the stem – it should give slightly and smell sweet. Unripe honeydew wont add much flavor.

Sweetener timing: Add honey or sugar while tea is warm. Cold liquids dont dissolve sweeteners well.

Storage: This recipe for fresh mint tea keeps in the fridge for 3-4 days but honestly it tastes best within 24 hours.

What Mixes Well with Mint Tea

Since people always ask what goes with mint tea here are some combos that work:

  • Lemon or lime juice (adds tartness) – try our Lemon Ginger Water for inspiration
  • Cucumber slices (super refreshing)
  • Green tea bags (for caffeine boost)
  • Fresh ginger (adds warmth)
  • Watermelon instead of honeydew

What You Shouldnt Mix with Mint

Avoid these combinations when making mint tea:

  • Dairy products (milk curdles with the acidity)
  • Very citrusy fruits like grapefruit (overpowers the mint)
  • Strong spices like cinnamon (conflicts with the cooling effect)
